Naman Pushp is an Indian entrepreneur and aerospace technology founder known for founding and leading Airbound, a Bengaluru-based aerospace startup developing autonomous aircraft for logistics and drone delivery.

Pushp began experimenting with robotics and aircraft while he was still a teenager. A drone project developed during the COVID-19 pandemic eventually became the foundation for Airbound, which evolved from an experimental project into a funded aerospace company working on autonomous delivery aircraft.

Early life and education

Naman Pushp was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and spent portions of his childhood in Hyderabad and Malaysia. His interest in engineering and robotics developed at an early age. While living in Malaysia, he began building simple robots during middle school and participated in robotics and engineering activities.

He later attended Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai. During his school years, Pushp increasingly focused on learning through practical engineering projects.

In 2020, during the pandemic lockdown, Pushp began experimenting with drone design. At the time, he was approximately 15 years old and was looking for a project to work on while schools were closed.

Early drone project

Pushp's initial drone project was called Open Drone. He entered the project into a hackathon and received a prize of approximately US$500.

Instead of treating the prize as personal earnings, Pushp reinvested the money into developing the drone and building a more advanced prototype.

The experience led him to investigate the technical and economic limitations of conventional drone delivery. In particular, he became interested in the amount of energy required for an aircraft to carry its own weight in addition to its payload.

This problem became the basis for the engineering approach that later developed into Airbound.

Airbound

Pushp founded Airbound as an aerospace technology company focused on autonomous aircraft and logistics.

The company was established around the idea that drone delivery would need aircraft specifically designed for efficient transportation of small and medium-sized payloads. Rather than treating drones as smaller versions of conventional aircraft, Airbound developed its own aircraft architecture.

Airbound's aircraft use a vertical takeoff and landing configuration that transitions into horizontal flight. This allows the aircraft to operate without conventional runways while benefiting from the efficiency of fixed-wing flight during longer portions of a journey.

The company's aircraft are designed around lightweight structures and carbon-fibre manufacturing.

Engineering approach

A central part of Pushp's approach to aerospace engineering is reducing the proportion of aircraft weight that is devoted to the aircraft itself.

Airbound's TRT aircraft weighs approximately 1.5 kilograms and is designed to carry around 1 kilogram of cargo. The company is also developing larger aircraft capable of carrying substantially heavier payloads.

The aircraft uses a tail-sitter configuration, allowing it to take off and land vertically before transitioning into horizontal flight.

Pushp has argued that improving the relationship between aircraft weight and payload capacity is important for making aerial logistics economically competitive with road transportation.

Drone delivery operations

Airbound has conducted thousands of autonomous flights as part of its development and testing programme.

One of its major operational applications has involved Narayana Health. Airbound's aircraft have been used to transport diagnostic samples between healthcare facilities in Bengaluru.

The drone flights are designed to reduce transportation time compared with conventional road-based movement of medical samples. The company has reported completing more than 1,000 autonomous flights for Narayana Health.

Airbound has also conducted flights in Bengaluru and Guntur while testing the aircraft and its autonomous systems.

Funding and growth

Airbound attracted early investment while Pushp was still a teenager. The company subsequently raised a seed funding round as it developed its aircraft technology.

In August 2026, Airbound announced a US$37 million Series A funding round led by Greenoaks. The round included participation from DoorDash, Lightspeed, Lachy Groom, and Humba Ventures.

The funding brought Airbound's total capital raised to nearly US$50 million according to reports published after the Series A announcement.

The new capital is being used for research and development, aircraft engineering, manufacturing, and expansion of Airbound's logistics operations.

Andhra Pradesh drone network

Airbound has also been working on a planned drone logistics network connecting cities in Andhra Pradesh.

The proposed network is intended to connect Amaravati, Vijayawada, and Guntur. The company has discussed a long-term objective of reaching thousands of drone flights per day across applications including healthcare, retail, and e-commerce.

The Andhra Pradesh government has been involved in developing the regulatory and operational framework for the proposed network. Airbound's plan involves using ground infrastructure and observers to support drone operations while regulatory requirements for larger-scale autonomous flights continue to develop.

Manufacturing strategy

As Airbound has expanded, manufacturing has become an increasingly important part of its strategy.

The company operates an aerospace manufacturing facility in Bengaluru where it works on aircraft structures, flight systems, and other components. Pushp has emphasized the importance of designing aircraft that can be manufactured at large scale rather than producing small numbers of highly specialized prototypes.

Airbound's longer-term plans involve increasing production capacity and developing larger aircraft with higher payload capabilities.

Career as a young founder

Pushp's age has attracted considerable attention to his entrepreneurial career. He began developing aircraft as a school student and chose to continue building Airbound rather than immediately following a conventional university path.

He was admitted to Carnegie Mellon University but decided not to attend, instead continuing to work on his aerospace company.

His career has therefore combined engineering development, startup fundraising, manufacturing, and commercial experimentation at a relatively young age.

Future applications

Although Airbound's current focus is primarily on logistics and delivery, Pushp has discussed broader applications for the company's aircraft technology.

The company has explored the possibility of developing larger aircraft capable of carrying heavier payloads. Pushp has also discussed the potential long-term use of the underlying technology for freight transportation and human mobility.

These applications remain part of Airbound's longer-term development ambitions, while the company's current operational work is centered on autonomous logistics.
